Gulf Marine Contractors (GMC) South Africa is a leading, global, marine logistics solutions company. The company’s head office is in Houston, USA and their African HQ is based in Cape Town, South Africa.
GMC’s African operations are led by company COO Patrick Kuys (South Africa). Patrick is the main liaison of GMC to Africa Scotland Business Network and is ASBN’s Global City Representative in Houston, where he mainly works from GMC’s global headquarters. The company has been official members of ASBN for 3 years. In this time, ASBN has connected GMC to various companies, including a leading Scottish oil and gas services company who were seeking a trusty South African partner to help manage offshore crews. This partnership is still intact today.
GMC was launched in Africa to seek opportunity in the magnitude of large energy and infrastructure projects which require the complete suite of services supplied by GMC. A current example of GMC in African seas, is providing a turnkey vessel agency service for the Scarabeo 5 rig owned and operated by Saipem S.p.A. The short-stay service for the Scarabeo 5 rig took place in the Port of Saldanha Bay, South Africa in April 2023 where the vessel arrived from Point-Noire, Republic of Congo.
GMC facilitated the vessel call including crew changes for off and on-signers, transport and accommodation, supply of fresh provisions, and NDT testing and supply of equipment to undertake inspection and repairs.
GMC South Africa has been awarded the 3-year Frame Agreement with Saipem S.p.A. and looks forward to continuing to provide with the best South African service across the value chain.
GMC thanks partners and service providers who worked alongside their team in South Africa, particularly Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) and Department of Home Affairs (DOHA) Immigration Services for welcoming the vessel and ensuring the call went smoothly.
The Scarabeo 5 is en-route to Port Louis, Mauritius from South Africa, with it’s final destination being Dubai.
